Remembering Jessy Dixon

Jessy Dixon was a singer and songwriter who helped popularize gospel music with his energetic style. Dixon died Monday in Chicago after being sick for more than a year. He was 73. Dixon was perhaps best known for his 1993 hit “I Am Redeemed.” In the 1970s he reached the mainstream pop-music audience when he collaborated with Paul Simon on two albums and toured with him for eight years. Dixon also played keyboard with the funk group Earth, Wind and Fire and collaborated with guitarist Phil Upchurch.
